A global oil & gas exploration and production firm located in Denver is searching for a Data Science Vice President to lead a high-performing predictive analytics team of data scientists and data engineers. This team will use machine learning techniques in Big Data to evaluate data patterns in onshore oil & gas production (geo-seismic signals, production data, artificial lift, etc.) to forecast and optimize operational production systems/processes. Key responsibilities include:


  • Develop a strategy for a predictive analytics platform;
  • Responsible for hiring of a team of 5 to 7 scientists;
  • Extract Big Data from a variety of sources to identify patterns;
  • Use cutting-edge models and algorithms (regression, machine learning techniques) to predict operational issues;
  • Make recommendations to streamline and improve operational systems and processes.


Educational and professional requirements include a PhD or Masters in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, etc.); 10+ years professional experience in a data science role (oil & gas experience is a plus but not required), including experience managing or leading a team; experience with regression analysis (including GLMs, Bayesian methods and classification techniques); experience with numerical optimization methods (including LP, NLP, iterative and/or stochastic methods); and excellent programming skills (C#, R, Python).
