An international energy firm in Houston is searching for an Emissions Analyst to join its Commercial Analytics team. This is a newly created position and part of a new and growing Power, Environmental and Gas Trading & Origination business. The position supports the U.S. Emissions trading and origination teams by providing environmental, emission and REC forecasts for trade strategies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring policy developments in the environmental and emissions markets at state, regional and federal levels,
  • Providing fundamental analysis (emission supply, demand and prices) and insights for both short-term trading and long-term strategic initiatives in the environmental markets,
  • Undertaking sensitivity analyses to provide detailed insights on how forecasts impact the portfolio,
  • Overseeing the portfolio’s compliance and voluntary programs including an inventory of environmental positions,
  • Building and maintaining a database to support analysis of carbon markets and prices,
  • Attending industry events and networking to stay abreast of new information that may impact power markets,
  • Collaborating with the Origination group to develop new customer solution offerings,
  • Working closely with other power and gas fundamental analysts and traders in consolidated market view development,
  • Communicating with key stakeholders and executive management, and
  • Participating in new business analyses.


Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Economics, Engineering or related field; 5+ years’ of fundamental modeling experience in an emissions trading environment or market research/ consulting firm (Renewable Energy Credits); experience with data reporting, analysis and visualization required; strong understanding of environmental and emissions compliance and market structure; and strong technical skills with data management, programming and visualization tools.
