A competitive power generation firm in the Dallas area seeks a Head of Commercial Analytics supporting the Power & Natural Gas Trading desks. This position is responsible for building a team of high-performing Commercial Analysts with advanced quantamental skills to support strategy, optimization, and portfolio dispatch trading decisions (hedging and optimization) and commercial optimization projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy markets, data science, and trading analytics, with proven experience leading high-performing teams in a fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, develop and mentor a high-caliber commercial analytics team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence
- Market Analysis & Research
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of and interest in the North American Power and Natural Gas markets and associated data sets
- Analyze and report on supply, demand, weather, regulatory, macroeconomic and technology factors/trends impacting power and natural gas markets
- Analytical Strategy & Execution
- Optimize and innovate processes, data sources, and fundamental and statistical models used by power and natural gas trading
- Ensure commercial analytics infrastructure is scalable, automated, and aligned with trading desk and commercial needs
- Data-Driven Decision Making & Technology Integration
- Oversee the development of real-time analytics platforms, dashboards, and visualization tools to drive commercial optimization and trading decisions
- Leverage machine learning, AI, optimization modeling and big data techniques to improve trade signals and predictive modeling
- Collaboration & Business Impact
- Work closely with key internal stakeholders (trading, risk management, IT, and senior leadership) to align analytics with business strategy
- Deploy commercially relevant insights which enhance trading decision-making activities and contribute positively to the overall PnL and trading performance
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in commercial analytics, quantitative research, or trading strategy development within power and natural gas markets
- Strong knowledge of ISO power markets, natural gas transportation, supply-demand modeling, and energy market fundamentals
- Expertise in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools for analytics and model development
- Experience with algo design, AI implementation, machine learning, time series analysis, and statistical modeling
- Proven leadership experience managing high-performing analytics teams
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate data insights into trading strategies and commercial decisions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
