A global energy trading & marketing firm is searching for a Lead Commodities Risk professional to focus on risk and middle office activities of a physical and financial power portfolio including structured deals and transactions (load deals, full requirements contracts, tolling agreements, block, and shaped products, ancillary products, unit-contingency deals, options/heat rate call options, etc.). This Lead role has close interaction with the power & origination trading teams, as well as senior management.


Key responsibilities include:

  • measuring, valuing, and reporting the daily mark-to-market P&L,
  • understanding the trading portfolios and strategies in conjunction with the overall power markets from a risk, liquidity, and fundamental perspective,
  • providing risk control and analysis for power structured deals and transactions (heat rate call options, tolling, load-following, full-requirements, etc.),
  • providing management commentary on trading activity,
  • monitoring trader risk to ensure compliance with control policies and trader limits,
  • supporting the power trading desk with reporting and ad hoc analysis,
  • supporting the cash forecast and accounting processes, and
  • participating in projects to automate and streamline processes.


Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Finance or related numerate field; 5-12 years of experience in risk, trade reporting, product control, or a middle-office PnL role supporting a power or natural gas trading desk; strong working knowledge of the physical and financial electricity/power and gas markets; ability to communicate complex trading transactions; ability to communicate with company executives on control issues and processes; and advanced technology skills including Excel/VBA/SQL/Python are a plus.
