A competitive power generation firm in Dallas seeks a Senior Trading Analyst to support its Power & Natural Gas trading desks. This role combines quantitative analysis with fundamental market research to generate and optimize trading strategies and enhance risk management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantitative research, market analysis, and energy trading, with a deep understanding of power and natural gas markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Market Analysis & Research
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of and interest in the North American Power and Natural Gas markets and associated data sets
- Analyze and report on supply, demand, weather, regulatory, macroeconomic and technology factors/trends impacting power and natural gas markets
- Quantitative Modeling & Strategy Development
- Leverage a strong technical modeling techniques including econometric, machine learning, optimization, statistical, timeseries analysis, etc. to develop trading analytical models
- Produce commercially relevant insights which enhance trading decision-making activities and contribute positively to the overall PnL
- Data Management
- Automate and analyze large data sets using Python, R, SQL, or other relevant tools
- Maintain and improve real-time dashboards and analytical tools for traders
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with internal stakeholders including traders, risk management, operations, and technology teams to enhance trading infrastructure
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
- 3+ years of professional experience supporting a power or natural gas trading desk in a quantitative research/modeling role
- Strong knowledge of power (primarily) and natural gas markets, including pricing, congestion, and generation fundamentals
- Proficiency in Python (required), Power BI, Tableau, and experience in software development (preferred)
- Experience with algo design, AI implementation, machine learning, time series analysis, and statistical modeling
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
