A power generation company in The Woodlands is looking for a Senior Quantitative Risk Analyst to provide generation modeling, asset valuations, and hedging to support its power plant fleet of assets. Responsibilities include:


  • Perform risk-related functions including instrument valuation validation, portfolio position reconciliation and PnL variance explanations for model-related impacts,
  • Perform hedging and sensitivity and scenario analyses on the portfolio,
  • Quantify and report on portfolio market, credit and liquidity risks,
  • Reconcile the ETRM system to the stochastic valuation of generation assets,
  • Develop models and pricing tools to value structured transaction origination activity (heat rate call options with complex deal attributes, retail load following, and natural gas storage (time spread) contracts),
  • Create derivative pricing tools used by the trading
  • Validate complex deal inputs (volatilities and correlations) entered in the risk management system,
  • Perform fundamental analysis to support an internal market view on the broader power and natural gas markets,
  • Generate gross margin forecasts, and
  • Participate in the development and implementation of process and system improvements.


Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; minimum of 5 years of power or gas markets risk or quantitative analysis at a utility, IPP or energy consulting firm; asset modeling and valuations experience; understanding of derivative (options) pricing models and risk metrics including GMAR, VAR, PFE; experience with time series analysis, stochastic analysis, Monte Carlo simulations and probability/statistics methods; and proficiency with C++, R, or Python, and experience with relational databases and SQL development.
