A competitive power generation company in the Dallas area seeks a Senior NYMEX Natural Gas Trader with extensive experience managing a financial portfolio of natural gas swaps, futures, options, other derivatives, etc. Natural Gas Trading is focused on hedging and optimization for a 40-gigawatt power generation fleet and load portfolio. This is a key senior position within a commercial trading team, including power traders, other natural gas traders, and fundamental and option analysts. This trader will be involved with ongoing fundamental/technical analysis of the natural gas markets, creating sophisticated strategies around market dynamics, executing and managing a financial natural gas portfolio supporting the company’s NYMEX exposure, and participating in proprietary trading.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategy Development: Develop and refine point-of-view trading strategies to capitalize on market opportunities. Collaborate with fundamental analysts and other natural gas and power traders to identify and exploit market inefficiencies.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth analyses of short-term natural gas market fundamentals, technical indicators, and geopolitical factors influencing natural gas prices. Stay abreast of market news, regulatory changes, and competitor activity to inform trading decisions.
  • Risk Management: Monitor and manage trading positions to optimize profitability while effectively managing risk exposure.
  • Hedging: Implement hedging strategies to mitigate price risk and protect the power generation and load books.
  • Trade Execution: Execute trades on the NYMEX natural gas futures and options markets, ensuring timely and accurate execution of trading strategies.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with counterparties, brokers, and other market participants to facilitate trade execution and access market intelligence.
  • Trade Documentation: Maintain accurate trade records and documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

 

Professional and educational qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in financial natural gas trading, analysis, and financial options structuring on the NYMEX or other energy exchanges.
  • Proven track record of successful trading performance and risk management in the natural gas markets.
  • Experience with the wholesale power markets including power generation and load.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
