Transmission Trading Analyst

Position analyzes and forecasts fundamental congestion drivers and manages physical and financial transmission congestion risk for a power trading desk focused on multiple ISO markets. Trading activity can occur in the monthly CRR/FTR auctions and in the Day Ahead and Real-Time markets.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating, utilizing and enhancing power models (including Security-Constrained Optimal Power Flow Models and Production Cost Models) to understand congestion drivers (generation, load, outages, transmission projects, etc.) and underlying risks,
  • Conducting market research using machine learning-based predictive models to monitor price patterns, congestion load, etc. that will identify congestion risk and signal trading scenarios,
  • Collaborating with Traders, Originators, Operators and other key internal stakeholders to understand market drivers and risks.

 

Educational and professional requirements include:

  • An advanced degree (PhD highly preferred) in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus (advanced degrees in other quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, etc. will be considered);
  • At least 1 year of experience working with a power trading desk at an ISO, independent power provider, hedge fund, etc.;
  • Experience with Production Cost Models (e.g., Dayzer, Plexos, Promod, Uplan, etc.) and Security-Constrained Optimal Power Flow Modeling (PowerWorld, PSSE, etc.); and
  • Strong programming skills (Python, R, SQL) with a strong knowledge of Machine Learning is highly preferred.
